Come cruising in Sitges, Barcelona...

Enjoy a day on board a traditional Minorcan boat, 10 metres in length and offering all the advantages of comfort and safety. This Minorcan boat, berthed in the Port of Aiguadolç (Sitges, Barcelona), is a traditional fishing vessel adapted for recreational sailing.

Our voyage begins in the Port of Aiguadolç from where we set sail heading towards the nudist beaches to the east of the town. In the course of our voyage we will be able to take in some magnificent panoramic views of Sitges, originally called Subur by the Romans.

Shortly after departure we see the navigation beacons at the port’s exit and discover the tranquil coves of Balmins beach (1), where both tourists and locals alike indulge in a spot of nude sunbathing. Further on, we see the bright white walls of Sitges’ cemetery (2), built on a small hill on the outskirts of town and adjoining the small hermitage of San Sebastian.

Following this we catch sight of San Sebastian Beach (3) in whose waters is anchored a buoy created by the artist Robert Llimos. This decorative buoy is entitled ‘Miraestels’ (‘Look at the stars’) and is made from polyester resin.

As we cruise further along the coast we come across a privileged and rather unusual landmark: a large rock on which stands a cluster of culturally important and artistic buildings which combine to make Sitges a unique and special place. The parish church - popularly known as La Punta (4) due to its location on a promontory - is dedicated to Saint Tecla and Saint Bartholomew, patron saints of Sitges.

Hotels such as the Calipolis (5) and the Terramar (6) are the legacy of the 1920s. The villas on the seafront and promenade also owe their magnificence and their existence to the same era.

The golf course (7) with its Terramar Golf Club was one of the first in Spain. The disco ‘L’Atlantida’ (8) is an extraordinary open air club with its own private beach and is a meeting point for the most die-hard of urban tribes and night-owls.

From this point on the coast loses its gentle terrain and becomes rugged and wild again; these are the foothills of the Garraf Massif. Soon we will discover our long-awaited destination: Enrocada Beach and Dead Man’s Beach (9).

Anchored opposite these small and hard to reach coves is where we will have our picnic. Time to sunbathe, swim to the shore and to venture off into the woods.

Before returning to Aiguadolç we will take a far off glimpse of the San Cristobel lighthouse close to the port of Vilanova i la Geltrù.
